Course Title: NSG305 Community Health Nursing
Semester and year in which the course is offered: This course is offered in the final semester of the ADN program.
Course Description: This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to apply the nursing process in performing a community assessment. Students will identify health disparities, plan strategies to treat culturally diverse populations in the community, and complete a community/population focused nursing care-plan. Key concepts to be addressed in this course include theoretical concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention in providing nursing care to various client populations in the community.
Course Outcomes:
1. Describe the various roles and responsibilities of the community health nurse related to communicable disease control, health policy/quality improvement, and disaster management. (Remembering)
2. Demonstrate cultural competence in providing nursing care to clients and families of diverse backgrounds. (Applying)
3. Construct a community assessment and identify health care disparities in the local community. (Creating, Evaluating, & Understanding)
4. Use principles of Evidence-Based-Practice (EBP) in researching and planning nursing interventions for various populations in the community. (Applying)
5. Integrate the spiritual and health care needs of clients and families into a comprehensive plan of care. (Analyzing)
6. Contribute to client/family education initiatives regarding health promotion strategies. (Applying)
7. Collaborate with members of a multidisciplinary health care team in providing competent, safe, and holistic care to various populations in the local community. (Applying)
